manesborderShalom y’all from the banks of the Arno! My name is Yael Manes, a scholar of Renaissance Italy and a lover of gelato, pasta, and almond pastries.  I live in Decatur, GA, where the weather reminds me of my hometown, Tel-Aviv. (Alas, Decatur has no beach.)

I received my PhD in History at Cornell University and am an Associate Professor in the History Department at Agnes Scott College, a private liberal arts college for women. I teach a wide span of courses on the intellectual and cultural history of premodern Europe, focusing on questions of gender, sexuality, and social networks.

My work focuses on the cultural history of gender and identity-formation in Renaissance Italy. I am currently working on a project that examines Renaissance biographies and life-writing.
